How To Write The Best Teacher Resume You Can

Author: NS Kennedy

It should come as no surprise that there is a currently a shortage of teachers in the United States. This unfortunate trend has been seen for well over a decade. To compound the issue, recent labor studies have predicted that teaching positions will likely continue to grow faster than the national average for the next several years due to recent government regulations to reduce class size and increase educational accountability. The need for teachers has never been greater.

Though this trend is good news for teachers on the job market, it does not diminish the fact that competition will remain tough for the most desirable teaching positions. Competition is especially fierce for English, Social Science, Humanities, and Elementary grade positions. Teacher will need to pay close attention to the presentation of their credentials, as detailed in their resume, in order to ensure that they can compete in the race for prime positions in the educational system.

To write a solid resume tailored specifically for teaching opportunities, consider the following guidelines:

Highlight your Educational and Licensure Qualifications

In addition to including the details of your teaching or academic degree (school name, when you graduated, your degree), you should mention any academic honors, grants, scholarships, or fellowships awarded during the course of your studies.

If you are an experienced teacher, you should include any relevant continuing education courses or seminars you have taken to demonstrate to prospective employers that you are keeping your skills sharp.

If you are a newer graduate or have limited teaching experience, a list of related education courses and any completed student teacher or mentorship rotations will enhance your qualifications to prospective employers. Graduates who completed their degree with an impressive grade point average should highlight this fact by including their GPA in the Educational section of their resume.

All teachers who have completed the process and testing requirements to get their teaching license will need to provide details of their license(s) in this section. Include the state(s) and subject area(s) in which you are licensed to teach and the date that your license went in effect. Since your employer will ask for a copy of your license once you are made an offer, you do not need to include your licensing number on your resume unless otherwise requested.

Emphasize your Teaching Expertise and Key Skills

A quick 10-second scan of your resume should reveal important keywords that summarize your teaching experience and give school administrators an overview of your qualifications. The most effective way to do this is to incorporate a section of your resume dedicated to teaching expertise and key skills. Include a bulleted list of your subject area specializations (such as biology, mathematics, special education, or K-3) and any pertinent teaching skills, such as curriculum development or teaching to style, that will enhance your resume presentation.

If you have several years of teaching experience, it may beneficial to list your years of experience in each area. For example, indicate that you have three years of experience teaching high school biology, two years of experience teaching middle school general science, and one year of experience teaching high school earth science.

Entry-level teachers and teachers with limited experience should also include this section in their resume, highlighting those areas and schools acquired from schooling, student teaching rotations, working as a student aid, and teaching mentorships.

Detail Your Teaching Experience

Since most school administrators hire teachers based on their previous experience in (or knowledge of if you are a new teacher) a particular subject area or grade level, prospective employers will need to know the details of your teaching experience.

If you are an experienced teacher, you should detail your subject area expertise, the type of educational system you worked in (public, charter, or private school), the grades you taught at each assignment, and your class size for each of your previous employers.

If you are an entry-level teacher just out of school or a teacher with limited work experience, you should detail any practicums, student teaching, student aid work, volunteering, tutoring, mentorships, or other unpaid work you were involved in during your schooling.

Demonstrate You're a Top Performer

Employers love to hire the cream of the crop, and educators are no exceptions. School administrators will be looking for teachers who are willing to contribute to the betterment of the school outside of just their day-to-day teaching responsibilities. In fact, many experienced teachers would argue that a significant part of the teaching career was went doing things outside of the classroom. Therefore, it is imperative that you demonstrate that you are a top performer.

Your resume will be more memorable and better received if you can detail specific contributions you made to each of your previous employers. What have you done that was above and beyond your basic responsibilities? How have you helped make a positive impact on your students and their families, your fellow co-workers, your school or school system, or even your community?

Consider your possible involvement in:

--Committees or review boards

--After school programs including school sports, academic teams, or clubs

--Fundraisers

--Community education drives

--Literacy board

--New teacher mentorships

--Cross-training in different subject areas

--The launch of a new school or program

--Outside education

The more details you can provide about your involvement in the educational community and your accomplishments, the better job you will do at impressing your value as a team member to potential employers.

How to Stay Calm in Your Job Interview

Author: Jeannette Kavanagh

If you've been shortlisted for an interview, congratulations. It's always great to win an opportunity of an interview.

Job interviews can vary from having to speak to one person, through to facing panels of up to nine people, as I've done. Alternatively, you might be presented with a problem facing the company and asked questions to test how well you'd deal with it. You must remain calm in order to present your talents at their optimum. Here's some help to stay calm in any interview.

Rather than re-invent the wheel so ably created by recruitment experts, I recommend you read Thad Peterson's article The Four P's of Interviewing.  He's a staff writer with www.monster.com , one of the best sites on job interview skills.

Within Mr Peterson's article is a link to Beverly West's article Perfect Your Business Handshake where she tells you exactly how and when to shake hands, and what to say, for maximum impact. It's very well worth reading – whether you're going to a job interview or not.

As is Chris Lytle's article When You're Smiling. It has great tips about using your smile in all your business communications.

PRESENTING A CALM AND CONFIDENT SELF

Whether you're facing a job interview, or a few thousand at a conference, the principles of conquering nervousness are the same.

Within my Public Speaking Success e-Program you'll read that it's almost all down to the preparation - of your material and of your self.  You can't possibly feel confident or calm if you're neither competent nor informed.

PREPARATION OF YOUR MATERIAL

That's covered by Thad Peterson and others.  I will say that it's totally appropriate to ask questions about the selection process you'll face, including:

* Who will interview you – how many, what are their roles?

* How long will the interview take?

* Is there a written component to the interview?

* Is it task-based or more exploratory?
PREPARATION OF YOUR SELF: ACCENTUATE THE POSITIVE, ELIMINATE THE NEGATIVE.

Imagine that between now and your interview you think:
 I'm not good enough;

I don't really have the skills they want;

I'll be really, really nervous like I was last interview;

Thinking those thoughts can make them a reality.

When you do the following, you can realistically start to re-write the negative with the positives.

1. Remind yourself that you've been selected for interview because you have what the employer seeks.

2. Divide a sheet of paper in three.  In the first column write the key selection criteria.  In the middle write questions related to the skills, experience, qualifications and attributes sought.  A great site to source some likely questions is www.monster.com.  Ask people who've applied for similar jobs for help.  In the third write your answers.

3. Re-read Lesson 2 in this course. Those strategies are applicable to your job interview, so use your answers as the script for your visualising success exercise.

4. Enlist the aid of a friend or family member to let you practise a run-through of the interview questions and your answers.

5. Ask for constructive feedback.  Re-do the interview practice if necessary.

Once you feel that you're ready to answer questions clearly and concisely, you'll automatically send that positive message to your subconscious mind.  When you hear your calm and confident answers you can start to construct what we call your non-anxious reality for your subconscious mind.

Remember to listen to that cool, calm and confident voice.  That positive memory is a key to replacing your fears of failure with your visions of success.

THIS TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE.

That voice, that calm person, is you. The unafraid you.  S/he can automatically re-emerge in the interview once you've realised that your nervousness is a result of only one thing.

Your thoughts. Your thoughts of the last time you were nervous, even terrified.  Just remembering, re-living the last time you were anxious and nervous brings back the symptoms of fear! I've written more about that in an article called The Truth About Panic Attacks which you can read on this website. It sets out how your memories and thoughts keep your anxiety and panic well fed.

To prepare for a great interview, remember the opposite.  Remember your calm confidence at the practice interview.

Every day before the interview visualise how relaxed and happy you'll be in that interview.  Send the first flutter of butterflies or nervousness away by this simple mental 'trick'.

1. Say. STOP!

2. Smile.

3. Breathe in deeply through your nose.  Feel the breath slowly go down to your belly.  Breathe out.

4. Think to yourself.

"I'll be wonderful"

A FINAL TIP.  SIP WARM WATER – THE DRINK OF CALM

Most offices have hot water.  Fill your glass with hot water, let it cool. Just two sips of warm water before your interview will instantly dispel all nervousness.  It's magic. Sip warm water throughout your interview to re-inforce your calm. As always, to your continued happiness and success.

What Loose Or Worn Tie Rod End Could Cost You

Author: James Russel

Steering looseness is one of the most common problems of automobile owners. The common causes of the said problem include worn tie rod ends, worn idler arms, damaged center links (for vehicles without rack and pinion steering), and tatty steering gears or racks. Among these causes, the most overlooked is the problem on worn tie rod ends.

People, most of the time, ignore steering looseness. Unfortunately, they realize the importance of solving it when they experience the wrath of their carelessness and lack of foresight. Normally, the steering wheel should have no greater than a quarter inch of play. More than that would mean something is worn or loose and it needs some fixing.

To remedy the problem, others would put off. According to experts, this should not be done because the failure of a vital auto component could result to loss of steering control. Both the inner and the outer tie rod ends should have no detectable looseness. A worn or loose tie rod end is especially perilous. It does not only result to rapid tire wear but it could cost you a fortune. Or worst, it could take lives.

If your vehicle has a lot of miles on it, the steering rack or gear may be worn. There is usually an adjustment screw found on conventional steering boxes. The screw could be utilized to take some of the slack out of the system. If the vehicle has rack and pinion steering, adjustment is of little help for the reason that the rack develops center wear. The only solution is for the center wear to have a replacement of the entire rack assembly. Sometimes, the steering of the vehicle will feel loose because of a tatty U-joint coupling in the steering column. Another worth noting cause is worn wheel bearings.

A loose or worn tie rod end results to a feathered wear pattern on the front tires. To detect it, car owners should raise the front of the vehicle off the ground and shake the front wheel back and forth. If you sense a free play, there is something wrong with the tie rod end and it needs immediate replacement.

If you are using a Ford vehicle, its tie rod has typically a tie rod end on both ends. The end Ford rod tie is used to link the steering rack with the front wheel hub. It also has a threaded adjusting sleeve that allows the length of the tie rod to be adjusted. The adjustment is intended for the alignment of the toe. A worn Ford tie rod end could cause excessive tire wear.

What does a NHTSA Ford tie rod end have to do with the vehicle handling? When a vehicle owner intends a performance Mustang or Focus SVT, he will be using the best shocks, bushings, and springs. However, if the Ford tie rod used is out of spec, good handling could never be had. This means that end Ford rod tie should be replaced first before one could move on to more intricate upgrades. Basically, Ford tie rod end tightens the steering feel.

OBD1 Codes Secrets for Domestic Vehicles

Author: Richard Trent

For vehicles made after 1996, retrieving the codes of the check engine light in your dash panel is simple. All you need to do is find your diagnostic connector located under the dash by the driver side. You can then hook up a scanner and the codes will be displayed for you. If you don't have any scanner like most drivers, you can bring your vehicle to any local automotive parts store and they will usually scan the codes FREE for you. However, for vehicles made on or before 1995, there is only one cheap way to get it: You do it yourself!

On board diagnostic (OBD) was designed on vehicles equipped with electronic fuel injection so you can generally retrieve the codes yourself. No need buying a scanner or running to any parts stores to check the engine light. This system is called obd1 and applies to most vehicles made before 1995 for domestics and 1993 on imports. In this article, I will discuss the methods used by domestic vehicle manufacturers on how to check the engine lights in their cars and trucks.

For GM domestic vehicles made before 1995, the diagnostic connector is located under the dash panel by the driver side. To get the check engine codes to flash in your dash panel, use a jumper wire or a paper clip and connect terminals A and B of the diagnostic connector. Turn your ignition key on with engine off and the codes should start to blink. All codes should start with code 12 which is one long flash followed by 2 short flashes. This code 12 means the diagnostic system is normal and will repeat itself continuously if there are no trouble codes. Otherwise, code 12 will flash 3 times before flashing the fault codes.

Ford owners can check their check engine light using the diagnostic connector located at the engine compartment by the fender near the battery. Getting the obd1 codes need a couple of tools: a 4 inch long gage 16 jumper wire and a 12 volt test light.

Both tools are hooked up to the diagnostic connector and when the ignition key is turned on (without starting engine) the codes will begin to flash in the test light, not in the dash panel. If there is no code, you will normally get code 11 or 111. On Fords, there are 2 test modes, the KOEO (key on engine off) and the KOER (key on engine running). Both test modes should be used to get the accurate evaluation of the stored fault codes.

Of all the 3 domestic vehicles, the easiest method to check the engine light is Chrysler products. Why? Because all you need is to turn the ignition key on and off a within 5 seconds and the codes will start to flash in the dash panel.

Counting the codes being flashed is almost the same for these 3 domestic vehicles and most of the codes can be erased or cleared by disconnecting the battery negative terminal for 1 minute and reconnect. Just make sure to check your service manual in case you have electronic equipment such as radio or clock that needs reprogramming in which battery disconnection is not recommended. Finally after performing repairs on the culprit code, always go for a road test to confirm if the problem is fixed.

If you want a detailed way on how the above procedures are done, please visit my blog: http://check-engine-light-codes.blogspot.com . This blog offers free info on how to check engine light codes with color pictures and regular repair tips so you can save money next time you see your check engine light.

How Do Boilers Work?

Author: Mark

A boiler is an important component of a heating system used in homes, buildings, industries and in making hot water. It is the part that contains water and moves heat in the form of steam from a fuel source such as oil, gas or coal to provide warm air. This is often found in hot water heating systems that convert heated water into steam and returns it to the source to be reused when the air gets cooler.

Specifically, a boiler works by burning natural gas, oil or wood pellet to heat water that goes through hot water tubes or cylinders, radiators or underfloor systems. Boilers can be energy efficient if well maintained, properly set up and their insulation intact and sealed well.

In most residential and small commercial applications, boilers can produce hot water at around 160 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit which is then circulated throughout the system using a pump. At temperature above 212 degrees Fahrenheit, steam is produced.

Types of boilers

Boilers can be closed or open systems. A closed system refers to one which is able to reuse 100 percent of the steam produced by a boiler. In other words, the energy from the steam is converted back into the form of water to be used again in producing heat. A hot water heating system is an example. On the other hand, an open system is one which does not return the condensate back into the boiler as the process of heating may be a source of contamination.

Boilers also come in two basic types รข€“ the firetube and the watertube. In the firetube or shell boilers, the fire or the hot gases are directed through the inner part of the tubes situated within the boiler shell surrounded by water. This design type, which is found in 80 percent of boilers, can produce steam of up to a maximum of 25,000 pounds per hour.

In the watertube, the fire or hot gases are directed to and around the exterior of tubes containing water. The boilers in this type are rectangular in shape and have two or more drums. In the top drum is where steam and water are separated while the lower drum acts as a collection point. When a huge amount of steam is needed, this system is very ideal.

How it works

Boilers operate when fuel is supplied to the burner. Natural gas is supplied through the gas pipe, oil or LPG through a pressurized tank while the wood pellet is blown to the burner. Fuel is then mixed with air and ignited.

The next stage is when the fire from the burner and its combustion gases escapes into the boiler. What follows is the transfer of heat to the water that circulates through the heat exchanger within the boiler.

When water is heated, it then produces warm air around the house via the radiators, underfloor heater and hot water tubes.

Keep in mind that boilers have to be regularly cleaned to make it work for a longer period. As they age, boilers that are not well maintained usually become less efficient.

Here are some tips then to follow. Run your boiler for short periods of time. Also, avoid turning it on and off very often as doing so could affect its system. Leave at least a one-hour interval before switching it on again.
